Search beyond conversation titles
You remember the advice, but not the chat’s name. Search for a word or phrase in your synchronized conversations and see highlighted message excerpts grouped by chat. In the demo, “onboarding” finds customer research, a workspace migration and a design review.
Keep the answers that fit your task
Choose Answers to focus on ChatGPT’s replies. Then use More filters to exclude “legacy” and leave the customer research result. You can also include terms, match whole words, search titles only, or filter conversations by their update date and archive status.
Return to the original context
In the demo, click Customer research synthesis to open the found conversation and read its question and answer. You can also click a matching excerpt to jump directly to that message. To keep a local copy, select results and export them as JSON, Markdown or TXT, with an option to include only matching messages and replies.
Set up your local archive once
With Power access, enable Chat archive in Advanced and let the initial synchronization complete, then turn on Smart Search in Toolbox. Use sidebar search or Ctrl/Cmd+K to open it. Your searchable history stays on this device; only synchronized conversations are available.
About Smart Search
How do I enable Smart Search in ChatGPT?
Smart Search requires Power access. Open StylerGPT, enable Chat archive in Advanced and wait for the first synchronization to finish. Then enable Smart Search in Toolbox. Open the search icon in ChatGPT’s sidebar or press Ctrl+K on Windows or Cmd+K on macOS. If you use StylerGPT’s sidebar panel, Chat archive is under Settings.
Does Smart Search search chat titles or message content?
Both. Smart Search searches the titles and messages stored in your local synchronized archive and highlights matching text. Choose Questions to search your messages, Answers to search ChatGPT’s replies, or All for both. Titles only is available under More filters.
Which filters can I use?
Filter by message role, conversation update date and active or archived status. Dates include the past week, month, year and a custom range. More filters lets you include or exclude words and phrases, match all terms or at least one, search titles only, or match whole words. Date filters use the conversation’s update date, not the date of an individual message.
Can I open the exact message I found?
Yes. Click a matching message excerpt to open its conversation. StylerGPT brings that message into view when ChatGPT renders it. Clicking a result’s title opens the conversation without targeting a particular message.
Can I export search results?
Yes. Select the conversations you want in the results, choose Export results and pick JSON, Markdown or TXT. You can export the selected conversations or choose Matching messages and replies only. The export is generated locally in your browser.
Where is the search archive stored?
The archive and recent searches stay on this device in browser storage. Search covers conversations that have synchronized for the current ChatGPT account; it does not search another browser or an unsynchronized history. Turning off Chat archive deletes the local archive and disables Smart Search.
